This project was designed to secure a patio area for a private residence in Santa Fe, while framing a beloved Buddha statue the clients wanted to feature. The custom gate was fitted precisely to the portola, allowing an unobstructed view of the surrounding nature while protecting their dogs from wandering out into the desert, where coyotes roam.
The gate's design was inspired by a mix of Shinto and Shipibo patterns, with spaces carefully measured to ensure they were too small for the dogs to squeeze through. The steel gate was finished with a copper rainbow patina, adding a colorful, weather-resistant layer to the piece.
